May you live long
A remarkable stone. A family story. A connection we hope will last.
Some treasures are found. Others are the people we meet.
Some guests arrive with a particular shade of blue in mind. Others simply want to see a natural sapphire for the first time. Every viewing is prepared around the person coming to it.
A stone for an engagement ring, an heirloom piece or a gift. Hold each one, watch how its colour changes in the light, and take all the time you need.
Natural, unheated and untreated sapphires and rarer stones, with an independent GIC report for every gem you shortlist before you decide.
Tell us the colours, sizes and shapes you work with. We prepare a selection before your visit and gladly discuss special requests in advance.
Before there was a company, there was a family life shaped by gemstones.
Founder of our family story
A lifetime written in gemstones.
Jayadasa devoted his working life to Sri Lanka's gem-mining trade, gaining the kind of understanding that grows through years of direct experience with the stones, the earth and the people who work with them.
It is a world that asks for patience. No two stones are quite alike, and experience matters when recognising the qualities that make each one special. This was the world in which he raised his son, Nipun.
Director
A childhood among gems. A vision beyond borders.
Nipun grew up beside his father, then worked full-time with him in Sri Lanka's gem mines. Over time an ambition took shape: to offer people from around the world the chance to discover Sri Lankan gemstones closer to their source.
That ambition became Noura Gem International (Private) Limited. Today Nipun is the personal contact for every guest, from the first enquiry through their time in Sri Lanka and long after they return home.
What I enjoy most is watching someone discover the particular stone that speaks to them, with its colour and character exactly as nature formed them.
We want you to feel that you have people in Sri Lanka you can return to, ask questions of, and trust.
If the right stone is not waiting for you, the welcome still is.
A blue with a story all its own.
There are many beautiful blue gemstones, yet the Ceylon blue sapphire holds a place of its own in the story of Sri Lanka. For centuries the island's sapphires have travelled far beyond its shores, admired for their colour and character.
The most captivating can appear wonderfully luminous, from softer, open blues to richer, saturated tones. The right blue is personal. Sometimes it is the depth of colour that draws you in; sometimes it is the way light moves through the stone.
Sapphire is also enduringly practical. At 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, it is a beautiful choice for jewellery that can be worn and treasured for many years, with appropriate care.
Softer, open bluesRicher, saturated tones
Look closely at hue, tone and saturation. Two blue sapphires of similar size can feel entirely different side by side.
Notice the stone in changing light, how its facets return light and which natural features are visible. Beauty is more than a number on a report.
The Ceylon blue sapphires we present are offered as nature created them. Careful cutting and polishing simply give each stone a shape in which its beauty can be appreciated.
We arrange an independent GIC report for shortlisted stones before purchase, so individual identity and detectable treatments can be evaluated on their own merits.
A considered selection, led by Ceylon blue sapphire. Every gemstone we present is selected as natural, unheated and untreated. The earth creates its colour and character; we simply cut and polish it.
Nature made the masterpiece. We only gave it shape.
These are the stones we focus on, not a list of guaranteed stock. Each shortlisted gemstone is subject to independent GIC findings to help establish its identity and assess detectable treatments.
Your private gem viewing in Sri Lanka begins with curiosity, not a commitment to purchase.
Tell Nipun your preferred blue sapphire shades, sizes, budget and travel dates, along with any other gemstones you would love to see.
Our team welcomes you at the airport and accompanies you between your hotel and your arranged gemstone viewings.
Begin with natural, unheated and untreated blue sapphires, then discover yellow and pink sapphires, ruby, and our semi-precious and rare stones.
Examine each stone, ask about its natural character and quality, and review an independent GIC report for shortlisted gems before deciding.
Choose only what feels right, with clear information, independent reporting and no pressure to buy.
For gemstones you purchase, we manage the official export process with the relevant Sri Lankan authorities and Customs.
A beautiful discovery can begin a much longer connection.
Alongside your gemstone viewings, you may wish to discover more of the island:
If you are curious about where gemstones begin, ask Nipun about visiting a gem-mining area. Such experiences can be discussed and arranged where practical.
There is no fixed idea of the perfect visit. Some guests spend quiet time studying blue sapphires; others want to see different gemstones or more of the island. We will discuss what suits you and explain the practical arrangements in advance.
The finest journeys often leave us with more than what we came to find.
Perhaps you already have a particular shade of Ceylon blue in mind. Perhaps you are curious to see an entirely natural sapphire in person.
Tell Nipun what you love. We will prepare a selection beginning with blue sapphires and extending to our other gemstones, discuss any rare-stone requests, and shape the visit around your interests.
We hope you feel less like a customer entering a showroom and more like a guest meeting a family pleased to share the natural treasures of Sri Lanka.
